Hi there and welcome to my blog Seacoast Fitness Daly. My name is Michael Daly. I live, keep fit and have fun in the scenic and historic New England seacoast town of Portsmouth, NH.

I am feeling much better than I look finishing up this 10K.. the heat was brutal, but still a fun summer road race!

I have been fortunate to have lived in and enjoyed Seacoast living for 5 years, most especially the vibrant health and fitness lifestyle many of us enjoy here. I am a former college lacrosse Head Coach and athletic administrator (Assistant A.D.) at the Division I & II levels. I had the pleasure of coaching and leading amazing and motivated student-athletes to be their best as athletes, students and people for 14 years, while enjoying a high degree of success on the field – my teams won multiple conference titles and two NCAA National Championships in 2003 & 2005!

During my career path in college athletics and as a Head Coach, I fully embraced the benefits of and focus on complete fitness and wellness in the preparation and training of our young teams. I believed in a total fitness and wellness approach to success for my student-athletes so much so that I designed custom training programs that included weight training, “boot camp” fitness, yoga, massage, nutrition, sports psychology and fitness/speed/interval training. The success my teams and players enjoyed can be directly attributed to their dedication to this focus on total fitness, wellness and proper nutrition. Most importantly for them, I know those are life lessons and habits that will help them all live happier, healthier and fitter lives as adults.

As you can imagine, a dedication to total fitness and wellness is part of my own personal lifestyle. It is my passion. I have lived this way since sneaking downstairs at midnight to do 300 push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups in my basement back in 4th grade – my Rocky/Karate Kid fitness phase. Today I remain even more passionate about fitness & nutrition (mine and yours – I still “coach” it up) and enjoy life as an active adult.

As for my formal fitness background, I have been trained in High Intensity Training (HIT) methods and I am currently working towards my Health Fitness Specialist Certification with the ACSM. I have also earned a MS in Sport, Recreation and Fitness from Northeastern University in Boston. In addition, I am a dedicated runner, yoga and Bikram yoga student and am constantly in training for a sprint triathlon, 10k, 5k duathlon, adventure hike, snowshoe race or just preparing for snowboarding season. I am a true sports & fitness adventurer.

As an adventurer, as much as I love my fitness adventures here on the Seacoast, I truly love to travel and outdoor fitness activities of all kinds. I have kayaked with dolphins and sharks in Byron Bay in Australia (flipped the kayak too, but we were OK), scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef (yeah with more sharks), surfed in Melbourne at Apollo Bay and up in Sydney, zip-lined through a tropical rainforest, speed hiked and kayaked on Vancouver Island in B.C. with seals (no sharks, just bears), biked across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and around Prague in the gorgeous Czech Republic, and recently went on an outdoor fitness/hiking vacation to Ivins, Utah up in the breathtaking Red Mountains where I (speed) hiked through Zion National Park and “The Narrows” (see photo).

Like most of you, I still love to compete in all sports and on race day (mostly vs. the clock and myself), and to train in order to keep fit and healthy. For me, it’s a fitness lifestyle, a daily (daly) mindset and a whole lot of fun. Whether you enjoy being fit or want more of a fitness lifestyle here on the Seacoast or between the coasts, I welcome you to join me on this lifelong fitness journey via my blog.

Over the years I have developed wonderful connections and relationships with different faces and facets of our vibrant fitness community on the Seacoast from southern Maine to the north shore of Massachusetts and everywhere in between. This blog, Seacoast Fitness Daly, will highlight and share those amazing connections, events and fit friends, as well as inspirational, intriguing and informative fitness & wellness experiences with you from around the region and beyond.
